Report of man with gun causes brief lockdown at Kettering Catholic schools, church

KETTERING — Two local schools and a church in Kettering were temporarily placed on lockdown Friday morning.

Kettering Police were called out to St. Charles School on Ackerman Blvd. shortly after 11 a.m. for a possible weapons complaint.

Staff had called police regarding a call they’d received about “an unknown male with a gun in a pickup truck in the parking lot,” according to Office Cynthia James, Kettering Police’s public information officer.

St. Charles School, Archbishop Alter High School, and St. Charles Borromeo church were all placed under lockdown out of an abundance of caution.

News Center 7 had called Alter High School and was told that they had just finished their senior awards ceremony when this happened. Some families in the parking lot were brought back inside the school for the lockdown.

No other students were on campus.

Police cleared the parking lot and the interior of the buildings before lifting the lockdown.

No person or vehicle matching the description of the initial report was found.

The incident remains under investigation.
